Creflo's Comments Insensitive

Creflo Dollar and Eddie Long(Originally posted June 09, 2011)
Creflo Dollar's criticism about former parishioners of New Birth Missionary Baptist Church, home of Bishop Eddie Long, was distasteful, inappropriate and inconsiderate. Creflo admonished those who decided to leave the church after Eddie Long became embroiled in sex scandals with teenaged males and ultimately refusing to throw his “five rocks” and settling.

Dollar described Bishop Long’s egregious conduct as a mere “wreck.” This description implies that Dollar believes the accusations levied against Long. After Long settled, however, most have concluded that Long was guilty and afraid of the details that would have surfaced in the trial.

It is insensitive of Dollar to label this tragedy as a “wreck” when four (or more) young lives have been stained forever. Long was supposed to mentor these boys, not make them his sex slaves. In no way is this a fender-bender where no one got injured. This is a crash analogous to the Hindenburg disaster. Creflo Dollar, known for his attention-seeking remarks, revealed his insensitivity by his lack of acknowledgement to the scarred victims. Perhaps Dollar would’ve even suggested to the parents of these young men to support Bishop Long and remain at New Birth. What if Dollar had a son that was sexually assaulted by another preacher? Do you think he would say… “Son, you must forgive him as Jesus forgave you; stay there and listen the word of god from the man that molested you.”

Who knows, Creflo may be preparing his sheep for the inevitability of his "wreck." Creflo said Eddie Long had an insurance policy (Jesus' blood). Ok, so, molest anybody you’d like; Jesus’ blood will wash it all away. By the reaction of the congregation, they actually fell for it. When you are a non-researcher, non-reader (with the exception of the bible), non-thinker and religiously intoxicated, you are essentially an empty jug waiting to be filled and your preacher will be able to sell you leaves in a rainforest. Congratulations to all those who left New Birth; they are exercising good judgment. Not only will they survive but also, as long as they don’t attend another “prosperity” ministry, will have more disposable income at the end of the month.
