Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. Proverbs 3:5. This is one of the craziest passages in the bible. When we tell a person not to lean unto their own understanding, we are encouraging that person to not utilize one of the most important organs in their body---their brain. This is ironic because we would never suggest to a person to under-utilize any other organ in their body such as their liver, heart, skin, kidney, lungs etc. In fact, we would encourage a person to stop smoking so their lungs can be utilized to their fullest potential. Thinking is a neglected art. Don't be a scarecrow.
